I'll swing by there when I drop my wife off for work and get the key done and if I have to tow it to the dealer I guess i'll figure out a way to tow it there. Do they really have to have the jeep there too?

All of this happened with the old battery. I then bought a new one and its still doing the same thing.
you say you only have one key, did you lose a key? if the security system is similar to the GC system (assuming it is) it may require 2 registered keys for reporgamming to work. you may have to buy a second key.

I had similar issue with GC key/ replacement battery. Service Mgr told me to try replacing the battery in key, put it in ignition and turned it to on - not start - then off a few times. Did it and that cleared it up for me.

Yes. They will need the Jeep. Had this happen to a local club member and the Jeep needed to be at the dealership for them to do it. As we where told then: "reprogramming" the key in this case will actually be reprogramming the Jeep to accept it.

It is. You must have two functioning programmed keys to program a third. You cannot program a second key if you have only one, that must be done at the dealership (or some locksmiths if they have the capability so I am told)

I only got one key when I bought it (used) . The tow truck is on the way to bring it to the dealer now... :( hopefully they can slap it on the programer and get it done without too much lube on my part. I'll update when I get some info or a fix (Crosses fingers).

If i where you, i would get two keys. Then you can buy & program a third yourself for about $20, then if/when you lose a key your not going to get stuck with the huge dealer fee to reprogram again.

FWIW i am sorry. I wish everyone knew about the key programming thing, I cant tell you how many people have said they only got one key when buying the Jeep. Your screwed right from the start.

I hope the flashing light is a simple fix & you dont get raped to badly.

The transponder in the key doesn't depend on a battery to function.
I have a non-remote key with no battery in it. It starts and allows the Jeep to run just fine.

You can buy it from a key shop, or various places on the Internet. Just make certain you're getting the proper key--not all programmable keys are interchangeable.

Once you have two good keys, you can use both of them to program the third key yourself. The instructions for that are in your owner's manual. If you don't have two good keys, then your only recourse is to go to the nearest Chrysler dealer (doesn't have to be Jeep) and pay them to make the second key you need. Then make a third key yourself so you always have two keys in the event one is ever lost (or stops working, if that's what it turns out to be).
