Default Help quick!!!

I Crossed the factory nut and bolt for the front sway bar. I'm at lowes to replace it but forgot to bring the old one. Can someone measure the stock bolt for me? Both length and width?

If ur talking about a bolt for a sway bar disco or link. I believe it is a metric size 12 which is slightly smaller than a standard 1/2". I would guess that the length is about 2 TO 2 1/2 ". I know that a 1/2 bolt is just a hair to big to fit in the hole.

I figured it was metric and of course they don't carry grade 8 metric! Thanks for the quick reply!

It's actually metric 8.8. Will this be strong enough?

Without getting into a MASSIVE discussion (or debate) on fastener quality: YES, a Gr 8.8 metric fastener will be plenty adequate for that application. Your only concern should be point of origin for the bolt. Fasteners made overseas have a long and ugly history of being "counterfeit". These inferior fasteners may have grade markings on them, but it's merely a marking. The actual quality, metallurgy, and manufacturing tolerances might be COMPLETELY inferior. Nobody holds China responsible for these grade markings. Bottom line: Purchase American made fasteners. Not only are you getting a certified product, you are also helping American people. And yes, it does make a difference.
If I seem to be a "bolt geek", I apologize. My history in engineering, nuclear power maintenance, and racing sprint cars has taught me a lot about fasteners.

Just a question -no disrespect intended - does the USA manufacture metric bolts?

8.8 metric is equal to about a grade 5 bolt. you can find hgh quality metric bolts both USA and Japan. Same as you can find quality US made metric wrenches and sockets.

Absolutely, the Detroit 3 purchase many of their metric bolts from Great Lakes and Midwest companies. There is an online guide to identify the marking on the bolts to see who made them.
