Almost sounds like a bent axle shaft or flange. To find out you would need to put the Jeep on jack stands, put it in gear and see if there is any wobble at the wheels.

This is why I hate the Mud... I've got no issue with going trough some to get to where I'm going (provided there is no way around). But to simply waller in it.... Not for me.

To get back on subject though... I would start with cleaning everything, and well. Put your Jeep on stands and take the wheels off. Make sure you don'y have mud in the brakes or maybe a small rock. Even if the cleaning doesn't fix anything it will give you a good opportunity to look everything over closely. It seems odd to me that the mud would cause a U-Joint to fail, but not unlikely that it was already bad and allowed the mud in infiltrate it. It is also possible that some mud got in/around/past the axle seals and is now making noise. only inspection will tell. 5 minutes of Mud -> 5 hours of cleaning.

X2
I agree.

1. Put it in the driveway
2. Put it up on jacks (all 4 wheels)
3. Take all 4 wheels off
Take off brake pad calipers (hang them on the sway bars with wire/zip ties as to not damage brake lines)
4. Take a high pressure nozzle to the garden hose and blast everything clean. Especially that tiny little seam where the POS plastic grommet covers the axle near the wheel.
5. Inspect.
Re-apply lube in all the zert fittings/nipples
5a. Have someone steer rotate steering wheel left to right, lock to lock and verify entire spectrum of rack components.
6. Drive happy
