Sounds like a lot of solutions.

Mine is that I just use the Hidden Hitch extended receiver. It sticks out further than your standard hitch receiver. So maybe no need for an extension at all. I don't use a bike rack but I use folding rear basket all the time, and I can easily fold up the basket with the spare on the back without any extensions.

I started off with Anti-rattle locking pins but found the rusting of those pins to be problematic. The pin's locking mechanism rusts, then you go to unlock it, you break your key off in it, and then you're like me and bringing out the angle grinder to cut that SOB off.

Keep a layer of oil on the pin: I drop bike chain lube on the key then put key in lock to coat pins. I do this to my house door locks too.

Yes, use wrench to tighten and pull male hitch against female receiver. Drilling and welding a nut will push the hitch against the receiver. Have to use a wrench there too.

I didnt read the whole thread but I might try to slide a washer in between the extension and receiver and then secure it all with a strong nut/bolt. I Guess along the lines of shimming it...

Use tie downs to get rid of play in hitch. I use one end up at handle bar goose neck or at seat post and other end down to outer edge of your bumper and snug the strap. Do same on other side, this worked for my bike rack slop in hitch and it was free!! No more bike rack wobble!! O||||||O

Forgot to mention... My bike rack is type that the bike wheels sit in a track or loop and not hang by bicycle frame. But this still might help. O||||||O Click image for larger version
