Default Hood Insulation

The insulation material attached to the underside of the hood - does it benefit the engine in any way, or would it be better to not have it?
That may seem like a silly question considering it's stock, but I'm reading conflicting reports about engine temperature etc.
Any thoughts?

it is for sound insulation only, it doesn't affect engine temperature. Not a bit.

I thought (or heard or read somewhere) it had something to do with fire suppression. Any truth to that??

Is is a sound deadener and does deflect sme heat from the hood. Yes, made of fiberglass board is is fire resistant. x2 on the soaking up water if you go deep, but that is crazy deep.

A much higher quality hoodliner is made by Dynamat, I have used it on many vehicles including Jeeps and it is worth the $60. Has a heat shield and 3/4 thick sound deadener.

It's not related to fire suppression at all.

I would get rid of it. The last thing you want is to retain heat under the hood. That is why i went with the AEV heat reduction hood.

Originally those liners were "blankets" with fasteners that were designed to melt during a fire and blanket the fire. I have seen a bunch of cars that had engine fires and that blanket didn't do much to slow it down. I could see it protecting the finish of your paint on your hood in the long run. I agree with heat reduction hoods. If you can keep machinery lubricated and cooled you are way ahead of the program.
