just picked up my car after 5 days of sitting - no noise, the oil light didn't come on for the 2nd time in a row.
i do like the fram so far. i might try the motocraft next time, but then again, why mess with what works

my jeep typically sits Monday- Friday and when i go to start it friday it is a dry start. I've tried the mopar filter, and a k&n filter, but both have a dry start after it sits for 5 days (i've only done 2 oild changes)
is there a way i can get the oil pump on before the jeep starts so that it doesn't dry start?
its fine if it only sits over night or for 2 days, but the 5 days is to much

Sounds like I would change the oil to mobil 1 10W30, and then get a standard mopar filter from the dealer. Secondly, instead of turning the key to start, turn to crank, then just as it fires, turn it off, then start normally. This will prevent the noise until you can get it sorted.

Opps, nevermind
I'm seriously irritated with my Jeep. I did my first oil change at 1K miles as some on here have done. Before the change I had ZERO dry starts with the factory oil/filter. First change was dino 5/20 and a Mopar filter and the next morning rattle-trap for a few seconds. So I read more into it here and decide I'll drop the oil AGAIN and go with a Fram TG (Which seems to have the best results regarding dry starts). So I fire it up this morning and it's the exact rattle noise that was there before. I mean, the ONLY thing that changed was me dropping the oil the first time! I can't blame the engine because it started flawlessly for that first 1K miles!
I know you got it fixed, just wanted to mention this. I just went out to start me jeep. I am in colorado, my drive way has an incline and it just sat out there in the snow for 2 weeks (I was oncall until about 20 minutes ago). It started fine, and my incline is pretty steep. I use fram TG3614, moble 1 syn 5w20 5 qrt and 1qrt the lucaus oil treatment (auto zone). I changed from the mopar filter becuase I was geting the dry staart as well. But, then I have an incline which does not help.

Saw a lot of opinions on the best oil filters. Here is a study that someone did a few years back comparing many different filters. Its an interesting read. http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html

Put me in the Fram Tough Guard group. Changed my factory fill oil and filter last weekend at 1150 miles to Mobil 1 5W-20 with a Fram TG3614. No dry starts the past week but it is a dd. Click the thumbnail for a larger image of the filter I used.
Toying with the idea of changing the TG3614 filter every 3000 miles, it just looks so tiny, and the Mobil 1 every 6000. Also toying with the idea of using the TG3600 filter instead of the TG3614. The TG3600 filter can is 1.58" longer than the TG3614, i would think the extra length would offer a bit more trapped particle capacity over the TG3614. If I went with the TG3600 I would change the filter only with the oil at 6000 miles. A virtual
for your opinions.

If nobody else mentioned this already, next time you do an oil change, substitute 1 quart of oil with Slick50. The Slick50 leaves a thin coating of teflon on the moving parts of the engine which will take care of your dry starts.
