how do you use the O/D button..,?
The button keeps the gearbox from shifting into fourth gear. Usefull when running tall gears/big tires, towing, or running on hilly curvy roads where the box would constantly be shifting between third and fourth. Also useful when going downhill to save some heat and wear on the brakes.
When towing the OD button would be turned off most of the time, but there is no reason to keep the gearbox out of fourth while towing on long gentle downhills or with a strong tailwind. Let your common sense be the judge.

I turn off O/D as soon as I start my engine, I still havnt regeared since I got bigger tires. You know when you have to turn it off when your going highway speeds and the tranny keeps shifting from fourth to third gear often.
I hit the OD button for all city driving keeping the engine around 1800 to 3000 rpm.
When towing my box trailer on the highway I do a quick stomp and let up on the pedal to get a downshift and TC unlock when the engine rpm falls below 2000 and giving more gas does nothing. For hills or headwinds I turn off OD.
For JK only highway driving I manually turn off OD when the tranny is hunting too much to find the right gear. When I know a quick stomp on the pedal is going to lead to a useless 2 gear downshift I will turn off OD. Could use some improvement in programming.
I don't find turning off the OD for engine braking downhill is effective in any condition. Way too much slip in the AT and the engine is just not an effective brake. Thus in the Blue Ridge mountains and Skyline Drive and in Maine the brakes show their weakness- way too small both front and back.
