ignition switch
OK, so I just got back from a week in Colorado jeepin the San Juan Mountains and while I was up there I noticed my ignition switch was getting harder to turn off. I carried my jeep to the local dealer yesterday so the service manager could look at it. He said leave it with them and he would have a tech check it out as he thought it was something not right about it himself. That was at 7:00 AM yesterday. At 4:30 yesterday I called to find out if my jeep was ready. The S/M had to call the tech since they had already gone home for the day and the tech said he couldn't get the ignition switch out of the steering column so he pulled the complete steering column out and ordered a replacement column along with a new switch. Now today at 3:00 I stop in to see what is up and the tech had just pulled it out with all the new parts installed and ready to go other than the paperwork wasn't complete yet. The new switch is much better and it appears as though everything else with the steering is OK as well. I was somewhat concerned about the intermediate shaft and the clunk coming back, but he didn't touch that part of the steering. Other than lack of communication and the time it took to get it fixed I am pleased. They seem to think the problem was something to do with the steering lock. My cost was just the time. Warranty is a great thing.
