Found this when I was changing my cover, anyone know what is wrong with it?

The ring thing is sticking out

Those are your carrier shims. They are not suppose to look like that! They are basically really thin washers that keep your carrier and ring gear lined up correctly so your wear pattern is correct. Looks like they broke somehow. They should never break. The axle goes through them so I have no idea how you did that. You need to get that fixed asap before they fall out and your ring gear gets chewed up by the pinion gear. You will need a shop to do it, unless you have a case spreader, and a differential dial indicator.

That looks like faulty installation of shims during a re-gear. Probably from not using a case spreader.

Looks like the carrier wasn't setup properly during a regear. That needs to be addressed soon or you will have a catastrophic failure and a bleeding wallet.
