So I picked one up today for the clunk. They rang it up and said 200.00.... I said excuse me these are 85.00 I got one from you last year. He said yeah they redesigned it again this is the 3rd revision. Ended up being one of the second revisions like I had so it was 85.00. With a tag of 200.00 sounds like they did some major redesigning. Anyone else hear of a 3rd gen redesigned shaft? But if the new one does fix the issue then 200.00 would be worth it.

Anyone more in the know than me hear about this?

My Jeep has a first gen and the steering clunk has always made me feel uneasy. Always feel like I am going to be on some mountain pass and its going to let loose and I will proceed to fly off a cliff.

How difficult is the shaft to replace? Does the airbag have to be messed with?

2- 13mm bolts one on top easy to see one on bottom by steering gear box.. they are off set meaning the top one is easy to get to this puts the bottom one at a 90 degree angle facing the engine... kinda hard to get to unless u use a swivel.

Yes this solved my issue, it's my 2nd time doing it... seems they only last a year before I start feeling the knock in steering wheel and pedal... I'm hoping the redesigned one will be a perminate fix, if it is indeed redesigned.

Very interesting. That is the new one pictured in the last photo, correct?

Been lubing mine for about 2.5 years now, what a PITA.

5th wheel grease it and put a hose clamp on it and you'll be golden.

My steering shaft boot rotted off from some incompatible spray-in 5th wheel grease :(

My favorite lube has been a dry chain wax for dirtbikes..
