Ok that's great, but do I have a problem here? Every time I park there is a little puddle and you can smell the fluid.

So it looks like this....

I'm pretty sure that you scraped your diff on a rock and dislodged the seal a little. That's what happened in the picture that I posted. Coincidentally, it was also at Rausch. I'd check the fluid level to make sure you didn't loose too much oil. Most likely, the level is going to be fine, but you will need to get the gasket seal fixed. If I were you, I'd use this opportunity to switch over to aftermarket covers, especially if you're going to be wheeling on the rocks like Rausch. At 37,000 miles, you're about due for a fluid change anyway. You could keep the stock if you want, but either way, you're going to need to pull the cover and replace the gasket. DO NOT take it to the dealer to have it done. They charge a ridiculously high amount (i'm talking hundreds of $) for something that you can do very easily in your driveway. There's a write up here on how to do it.

$137 at the dealer for a fluid change. I had the same thing and after getting it done twice under warranty I decided to go the lube locker route.

65k miles later and some serious diff dragging- zero leaks. The bottom of my diffs look like someone took an industrial cheese grater to it, same deal with my covers.

Thank you! This is exactly it. I have a sick warranty until 2014 but I'd just as soon do it myself. I'll check the levels and then re-seal it.

I would recommend Poison Spyder covers if you decide to go the aftermarket route. I've hit mine pretty good and haven't had any problems. They're also relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other covers that are out there.

Default help again

OK. So I took the fill plug out and not the drain plug and a bunch of fluid poured out. WTF that's not supposed to happen right? Ps it wasnt milky and looked "healthy". Maybe I was on a slight incline in my driveway but i was surprised that anything came out let alone about 4 or 5 oz of fluid. is this normal? i'm gonna' go get some more to top it off with.

Probably just wasn't level. Sounds like your fine. Must not be a bad leak. Fix it in the near future and all will be good. I second what others have said: don't get dealer to do it, but save your receipts to preserve the warranty. I went with higher weight synthetic as recommended by Chrysler because I tow.

Seems like these things are coming from the factory overfilled a little. Mine was the same way and I've read other people had the same issue. It's not a big deal, just a little messy. If it was way overfilled, it would purge out the breather when the oil heated up.

^^ this.....mine was overfilled from the getgo and also each time after the dealer resealed it. It's supposed to be right there on the brink of coming out of the fill hole.
