This all takes lots of time because it is being done with my lifetime powertrain warranty. Every step has to approved by Chrysler.

Wow. That's heavy consumption. No sense in changing the oil if it's using oil that fast.

You'd think there would be a cloud of smoke behind me but, just a little is visible.

That is unbelievable oil loss, the worst I have heard of with no physical leak. They really need to give you a long block at this point, but like you said, you have to jump through all of Chryslers hoops to get anything done. I hope they make it right for you

I do not understand you guys. I have never had any vehicle burn oil regardless how many miles I drove. I have a 2010 3.8L and it does not burn any oil. So does all Mopar vehicles burn oil also or only the Jeep since Chrysler took over now they are saying 1qt for every 1000 miles is normal, my ass it is, there is a problem some where. This same engine is used in their mini van and I haven't herd any of them saying that they are burning all this oil. There is a problem and they need to fix it and or correct it.

You're on the minivan forum too?

Find a different dealer and start an oil consumption test. They will know how to do it. They will have you return in 1000 miles so they can read your dipstick. I was semi-patient and had to go through three tests before the oil burning was confirmed. Worth the diligence as I received a short block at 60k miles under the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty.

That's step 1. Step 2... we need to find out why that (. ) key on your keyboard doesn't work all the time

Yes, the vans have had this problem too, but many run 10w30, so problem not nearly as bad. This is a known issue with the motors and they know it. I agree that the consumption guidelines is ridiculous, but it is their attempt to avoid the liability of major repairs. I have never had a vehicle drink oil as much as my JK, although a PCV change and thicker oil have helped. This problem is hit or miss, and honestly the majority of these motors don't consume oil, but as widespread as the problem is, it definitely seems this way.

What is it you don't understand?

Anyway, engines burning oil is nothing new. All brands have their oil burners. It's been happening since automobiles were invented.
The 1 qt./1000 miles thing isn't new, either. For many decades they've all had a similar standard they go by.

I haven't seen any statistics, but I'll bet the JK isn't as bad about burning oil as it seems on this forum.
Problems get focused on in forums.
