Since that's not an option anyone have an ideas of what else would cause this?

Those trackbar bushings are gonna flex abit with the jeep sitting still and cycling the steering. Now there is another u -joint underneath your dash on the upper shaft you may wanna check, it's kinda hard to see , gotta get in a yoga position with a flasnlight. Did you check that one?

Thanks MK. The question is how much should those bushing flex? When I pulled the trackbar I put a screw driver through the sleeve on the trackbar ends and pulled. The rubber did not seem to seperate at all so i guess that good, it just looked like it was moving a lot.

How do I check that shaft? I am not sure how to check the steering shaft u joints for play. My friend who is a mechanic and came over tonight said there was no play in them and agreed that the Jeep was not driving right.

Did you check the shaft coming out of your steering box for play? The internals of the box could also be damaged...Also, dumb question I know but did you check your tire pressure? I doubt its that but mind as well at this point right?

Your gonna see trackbar bushings flex a good bit from the stress of shifting axle while turning the steering in place sitting still. Best way I can explain it. Did he check the u-joint under the dash? Seems to me what your descrbing would be either the box or something above it to the steering wheel.

My tire pressure is 28 cold but it can't be that. Its been like that for a year with no negative effects.

No he said he didn't think its that. On Wednesday we will be replacing the lower steering shaft anyway.

I am also thinking its could be the gear or shaft however tonight after road testing again it seems like the steering is tight and its the body that is out of sync with the rest of the Jeep. Thats why we checked shocks.

There is a tiny bit of lateral play of the sector shaft but its been like that forever.

Did you try jacking the front wheels and go from 10 to 2 o clock quickly? Should be able to spot play and probably here a clunk somewhere.

No we did it all on the ground. The only noise I heard sounded like it was coming from the steering shaft/box area.
