Default manual or auto help please

Ok I know this has been asked before but I'm at the dealership right now. I'm looking at a 2010 rubicon automatic or a 2011 manual. Now I really want the 011 but I'm getting a much better deal on the 010.
I have a manual sport now and love it, so its not a matter of comfort. It's a matter of is one better then the other

If it was me, and they are both equiped the same, I think Id go with the one that has the better deal.

X2. We've got a '10 and '11 and the wife is jealous of the '11 interior. I was in this same boat in May. I'm so glad I went with the '11.

The '11 interiors are nice. Go for what floats your boat. If you enjoy driving your manual get another. If you want to put your rig in gear and sip a coffee while you off-road get the automatic. heheh g'luck

You will likely be happier with the acceleration of the manual compared to the auto. I hear so many stories complaining about how they have no power with their autos (even with 4.88 or 5.13 gears). Meanwhile I have the 6-speed with 3.21 gears and 32" tires (same size as the Rubicon) and I am currently commuting on the highways in Houston and leaving it in 6th gear I can accelerate from 70 - 85 in a matter of 10 - 15 seconds. I have been meaning to take a picture of my speedo going 90 with the RPMs still down at ~2500 RPMs and the computer still saying I am getting ~20 mpg just to screw with the heads of people that complain about 3.21 gears (but as you can imagine this is a bit of a risky maneuver )

There's nothing wrong with the autos. There are a TON of people on here with them. Both of ours are autos. There are little changes in the '11 interior that I really like better than the earlier models.

It all depends on personal preference with what your comfort is with driving. Also what you are doing. There will be lots of people that will tell you that for off roading (not mudding) an auto would be the way to go, a set it, forget it, and enjoy the ride mentality. There are those who would say that for mudding you would want a stick for faster and more control of what you are doing.

all depends. I have an auto and love it, wish I had a stick but thats because I am a manual guy, wife doesnt like to drink so when we are out she plays DD and cant drive a stick, knows how but shes to short to reach the clutch well enough.

People seem to dig the auto when rock crawling...But for daily acceleration man(ually)handling that little engine is a must. The truck, especially with bigger tires or even a load in the back, struggles to get out of it's own way. Running the engine a little longer throughout it's torque curve is going to make you happier. Especially in those in between moments when the auto will want to up shift the moment before you decide to step on it.
