Default manual trans issue

So I bought my jeep about 3 weeks ago, its a 2008 rubicon 2 dr 6 speed with only 48,000km on it. And recently it started jumping out of first gear, and it scared the shit out of me. Anyways Ive been reading that it's quite a common thing, and there is a TSB for it but no recall. So until I get the time to take it to the stealership, is it okay to start off in second gear? Is it bad for the transmission and clutch? Also has anyone had the same issue and got it fixed for free? I didn't purchase a warranty so I hope i'm not SOL.

Thanks

Mine is an 08' Rubi as well and i have never had this issue. Is there a body lift on your Jeep? I would think its covered under the 5yr, 100,000km powertrain warranty as it is a Transmission issue and not clutch related.

I didn't know '08 had a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. A 2nd owner should have had only the 3 year/36,000 basic warranty.

When I finally had mine taken care of synchros and four gears (2 mating sets) were fairly trashed. Glad I did have the warranty

Don't have a body lift, and no warranty. Completely stock. I am now really regretting I didn't get a warranty, and quite frankly pissed out that I traded my perfectly fine 2008 Tacoma in for this jeep.. Now I am 21 grand in the whole with a major transmission issue within the first 2 weeks of owning it...

How is the dealer you bought it from? They should have known about the problem and may help with the costing. All they can say is no, ask them - and mention how they should have known.

2 weeks is still within buyer's remorse no (30 days)? Did u buy it from a dealership or privately? If private you're screwed if dealer u may have options, but i'm not sure about Vancouver...

My other question was if it is bad to start off in second gear? Is it bad for the transmission or clutch or anything?

It will cause extra wear on the clutch disc as it will be necessary to slip it a little more to get going.

starting in second all the time will burn your clutch up pretty quick....the dealership should work with you on this issue due to the fact that you just bought it. Have you got a hold of all the previous owners service records? Hard to believe someone would have drove it like that for over 40,000 km? On a good note it's not the end of the world as there are plenty of take off manual trannies on the forums for sale for cheap from Hemi-swap ins. Don't regret your decision on buying the Jeep....no matter how much grief the Jeep may give you you will fall in love with the Jeepin' life more and more each day.

......and Ron...we are in Canada so it's 5yrs 100,000 kilometers powertrain warranty....lol
