Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy?
Anyone running Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy synthetic oil? I've been using Mobil 1 5W-20 fully synthetic, but came across this stuff yesterday and couldn't find a reason not to change... I went with 0W-20. Same price. Same protection. Better MPGs... Why not?
Anyway, haven't read much on the forum about this stuff so wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with it... I'll report back at my next oil change in 6K miles to let everyone know my thoughts and if I gained the 2 percent fuel economy increase they're touting. Yes 2 percent... I know it's not earth shattering, but I'll take what I can get. |
I'd be interested to see if it helps. Show me subscribed!

I saw this the other day, was wondering if it would help at all.. Subscribed.

subscribed. I havent changed my own oil in years... but now that im currently unemployed im looking for every way i can to save money. let us know how this goes. anyone think there may be some downsides to using this oil?

I seriously doubt it's going to improve it much. 0w20 just has very little viscosity (lubricating properties) compared to 5w20. It may even start premature wear on your engine parts.

There will be no difference in viscosity at operating temp. They are both 20 grade oils. |

Not really an issue for txtrav down in Austin this time of year
I'm currently tracking ~15.5 MPG, so best case scenario, I go up .3 MPG. I'll report back in a few months... |
been using this oil for about 2 months now. like the op i wanted to try it out to see if it indeed would help. am currently getting around 22mpg. not sure if thats all the oil or the warmer temps up here. in the winter i average around 18mpg

Agreed. Even 5w20 is way too thin for a hard working v6 in a 4500# suv. Its funny how Chrysler tells us to switch to a heaver rear diff oil for towing, but makes no mention of changing to a heavier weight motor oil for the engine. No wonder you read about all these JK's with spun bearings & excessive oil usage. The engines are wearing out prematurely. Its 10w30 for me in the summer, 5w30 in the winter. Let us know how that 0w20 is working out for you in 50k miles.:D |
