Mud orange peeled my paint?
Just washed the Jeep after some wheelin yesterday and every place on the hood that had a chunk of mud is now messed up. Thought it was a residue at first, but claying and waxing didn't take it off. Upon closer inspection, it seems the clear has actually deteriorated and is now giving the orange peel effect. Is there anything to remedy this, aside from re-painting? This must be some cheap ass paint
The paint quality on my Jeep is the worst I have ever seen on any vehicle. Any nook or cranny like behind the door hinges shows bare primer and that makes me wonder just how thin the paint is elsewhere.
I'd guess that your orange-peel has been like that from day one.
I showed some of it to the manager when I brought it in for an early first oil change and he told me to make a list of any details I want them to check at the first service. Honestly, my Jeep should probably be re-painted inside and out, but I doubt that is going to happen.

My Jeep only has 6k on it. Always garaged, waxed and washed. These marks weren't there before we went out yesterday so I know it has to be from the mud. I'll take it to the dealer sometime this week and see what they can do for me. I can't believe that mud would do this...
Had the same thing happen to me.

The paint is under warranty for the first 12 or so months. using a pressure washer to remove the mud from the vehicle is what I did after my Uwharrie trip while it was raining. no paint flaked or orange peeled off my jeep. The paint isn't all the greatest nor is it the cheapest. a few coats of primer, a 1 or 2 coats of base the actual color and maybe one of clear. Some manufactures use a base with the clear in it so they can call it clear coated why I have no idea they just do. it is probably only 4 or 5 mil thick which really isn't all that good of a paint job but anything to save some money right. I would look at your warranty manual and read the fine print cause it just might help you when you go to the dealership. If they are a cool dealership you may get a free paint job.

Yeah, the mud definitely etched itself into the clear. I used to detail cars so I kinda have a clue of what I'm doing when it comes to claying/waxing, and this has definitely deteriorated the clearcoat. With what HITMONEY posted, does that mean there's a TSB for this issue? Is it out of question for me to ask the dealer to fix the paint? I'm also taking it in for a "clicking" sound coming from the transmission when I accelerate in gears 1-3

First I've ever heard of this. Were you wheeling in an environmental brown site?
