In all likelihood, it was the clip used to keep a door from swinging open while your Jeep went through the body and paint shops.

I used to work in a junkyard and I'd keep small odd looking parts. Whenever I came across someone who left their top down, I'd take one and stash it under their seat. You wouldn't happen to live in my neighborhood would you?
