Default Need some help with finding a spare key!

Hey guys and gals, I had my first key losing scare today that made me realize that I need to make a third! Ended up finding it this evening after losing it last night. Slipped between the dash and the windshield........that space is terrible! Even found a candy cane in there from the past owner lol. Anyway, I have searched a lot tonight, but am not sure how to chose the correct key still. I have an 07 Sahara so it has the alarm, doors, etc....on the key. I dont need all of this for a third spare, just a key that I will be able to use as a back up or if I lose one of my fancy ones I will still have two to be able to program a new blank. I am not sure I really understand everything, any advice? which to buy?? Thanks in advance!

Good idea for sure! Thought about that as I was dissasembling my dashboard trying to reach the keys with a magnet! PITA for sure! I have found keys on ebay that are real cheap and am sure would do the job. I just want to make sure that after I program the new keys, that they will work just as the original in terms of programming others myself in the future as need be. In other words, if I lose one of the originals but I have two ebay keys that are programmed, will I be able to use these to program say a new OEM key that has all my power options on it. I hope that all made sense???

Good idea, but what if you need to start the jeep...

If you actually lose your key, then your still F'd, but at Least you can sit in the jeep and think about past jeep runs.... I say spend the $180 and get an actual key and leave it with a trusted friend....

Unless they are programmer for YOUR jeep, I highly doubt they will work, but you can give it a shot... Do they actually start your jeep ?

I ordered a chipped, non-remote (no buttons) spare from ebay. I took the key over to Lowe's, BS'd the dude into cutting it and went home. Using the 2 main keys, I programmed it to start the Jeep. The spare is now hidden on my Jeep for the next "Oh, $H!t!" moment after kayaking, mt. biking, etc.

Yea, they have a chip in them that allows you to program them just the way that the originals are programmed. So they will start the Jeep, they just wont have any electronics in them for the alarm, or the locks. But that is fine, they are just for back ups and will hopefully work in the future if need ever be to program an original oem key.

Read this thread

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...ing-spare-keys

It includes step-by-step instructions for programming your new keys.
Always have 3 (three) (III) keys for your Jeep. When you lose one, simply make another with the two you have left.

You can get the blanks from ebay or Google up ikeyless. That's where I got mine for both JK and Town&Country. The non-remote lock key was less than $25. The one with remote lock was more like $100. ebay is half that if you're willing to go with no guarantee.

Be sure the guy cutting the blanks knows what he's doing. Not a high school kid at the Ace Hardware.
