New Jeep, when to change oil?
I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport that I bought brand new with 8 miles on it. I was told it has semi-synthetic oil in it but I'm not sure when I need to change it's oil. Is there an oil light or indicator that comes on telling me it's time? I've asked around and heard I should change it every 5,000 miles all the way up to 10,000 miles.
I'm close to 5,000 miles on it now and have seen no indication about changing the oil.
Anyone have info on this? Thanks!!!!

There is an oil alert that will come on....I think around 7500 miles if I recall....but might be wrong on that. I change every 5k miles, so that alert is always off schedule on mine. I'd leave the oil from the factory in until the oil change alert gets triggered.
**just checked my manual and didn't saw when it gets flagged...but again, think it's around 7500 miles. Does specifically say under no circumstances not to exceed 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. I use full synthetic and change every 5k miles myself.

It's a usage based monitor, so the mileage when the oil reminder alerts will vary.

I wouldn't trust a usage based sensor on the Jeep. If you plan on keeping it long term 5k oil changes are the norm. I put non-synthetic oil in my jk and change every 3k. I do it myself. Filter $7 oil $18. Peace of mine 100%

I bought my 2012 brand new. It now has 103,000 trouble free miles and still drives like new. Like many on here, I change every 5,000 miles and use full synthetic. The oil change indicator takes a few factors into consideration so you can't bank on when it will come on. Here is what I did, and based on how well my Jeep is doing, I think it is good advice: change the oil the first time around 5,000 miles, but use conventional oil. Then, starting at 10,000 miles, change every 5000 with synthetic. A nice advantage of using 5k intervals is that it is simple to remember.
