not enough fluid in diffs
 

i just changed my diff oil; front and rear D44 at 16k miles
I couldn't even get two quarts into the rear and the front wouldn't even take a single quart before overflowing.....book says over two each.

Any ideas

ive herd that if u lift u jeep u need to get aftermarket covers cause the fill hole on the stock covers gets rotated with the axle. that puts the fill hole lower.

but idk if my 3" or ur 2.5'' is even enough to make a difference?

I dont have the book in front of me.. but If I can remember correctly, the book is in pints, your talking quarts.. as per google there are 2 pints in one quart

give and take 1.5 Q in front and 2.5 q in back

full is full, as long as you're stock, at least.

My rear 44 took roughly only 2 quarts. My front 30 only took about a quart, maype a little more.

I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Suggestions:

1.) Get stronger diff covers like ARB that have the oil fill cap at the top so you can put in more diff oil.

2.) Get a fairly long funnel from Checkers or Autozone and poor the oil through that -- if you are only using the diff oil spout bottles at the moment.

3.) Get your Jk at an incline when pooring. For example, when doing the front cover, get the front of your JK elevated. When doing the rear get the rear of your JK elevated by a few degrees.

Don't worry about it man, my front took 1 quart and the rear barely 2. If you do a quick search on this forum you should be able to find a thread with the actual Lube/Fluid types and capacities and im pretty sure it states thats the amount the diff's take if you just have stock covers.

It's tricky getting all the recommended fluid in the diffs. I had a hard time. I got it close, then parked on a hill did the front and backed up a hill and did the rear. This makes it so much easier.

I'm not sure where the guy got all of the info but from my experience thus far the amounts have been pretty much dead on.

I got the G2 diff covers, i filled them to the plug overflowed(stupid), I have been living with a overflow of diff fluid for about 3 weeks that just keeps puking out of the overflow and down the frame-rail on teh drivers side front.

So I'm not sure how much to put in with aftermarket covers or lifts.
