Did I just loose a cap here or is this a bigger issue?

You did lose a cap but you'll want to replace the whole joint. I'm surprised it didn't round out the yoke. You also appear to have an inner axle seal leaking.

Thanks was hoping it was just the cap but not my luck.

Fun times.....fun times. Hopefully you are a handy person. The u-joint replacement and axle seal replacement isn't a terrible DIY, but is probably solid 3+ hours of work, longer for someone that hasn't done it before.

I’m not to bad but only have basic tools and haven’t done a job like that before.

If it's something that you care to do, there are plenty of u-joint videos, and pulling the carrier to change the seals isn't hard. We can certainly walk you through it. The one tool you'd definitely need if you didn't have, is a decent 1/2" drive torque wrench (usually for 50-250 ft lbs).

Not sure bout others....I wouldn't drive that with no cap on the u-joint myself till fixed. Also, you have to pull that shaft to replace the u-joint. That is about 1/3 of the way to breaking things down to change the axle seals. Good time to just do it.

36mm axle nut socket and 13mm 12pt sockets are also going to be crucial. I don't know the tie rod nut size off hand but if it's larger then you'll need to get that guy too.

I'd pull that axle shaft and continue to drive ***while checking fluids frequently*** until you're in a position to replace that joint.

Thanks guys got it parked at home and looking into it doing myself maybe this weekend.
