oem pitman arm

07 sahara unlimited 4dr. auto
can anyone tell me if the stock pitman arm has a curve in it. i know it drops down slightly but does it curve towards the driver side or is it completely straight with just the drop in it??

i was in a wreck and the drag link got bent up and trying to figure out if the pitman arm is bent also. i could not find any cracks so the curve looks natural, but it just doesnt seem right to me. i have RE drag link above the knuckle with the stock pitman arm

any help appreciated

im really starting to think that, but what was throwing me off was looking at the drop pitman arms for the jk and most of those are straight then i came across one that had the curve. for some reason i just cant seem to find a pic of the oem pitman arm, only drop pitman arms

the curve looks natural and smooth like from factory, but im ordering the new drag link and i would hate to install the link and figure out that the pitman arm was bent

thanks for the quick reply hellbound

Got a pic of your "bent" one ? Because some of them look bent, but it's hard to tell.

Yes, it definitely has a bend in it from the factory. They are also very likely to be bent further with moderate force applied laterally to the tire. Ask me how I know :D

If you were in a wreck and your alignment is off, I dont doubt for a minute that you bent it. My suggestion is to replace it at the same time as your drag link. After your alignment, you may have to have the Jeep dealership recalibrate your ESP sensors.

Hope that helps!

ill try to take one tomorrow, but it is very obvious its curved. its probably good 30 or 40 degree curve.

this does help thanks alot man!! :thumbsup:im afraid to ask u how u know. the alignment believe it or not is just fine, i can let go of the steering wheel and drives just fine in a straight line.
but i was afraid that the bend in the drag link would have forced the pitman arm outward. it did screw up my centered steering wheel, the jeep logo is now straight up and down instead of side to side. i might just go ahead and replace it to be safe side.

next question, if i replace the pitman arm, should i go back with stock or aftermarket, im only finding drop pitman arms for aftermarket. im already running a track bar drop down bracket from the frame so its my understanding to not use a drop pitman and a drop down bracket at same time:thinking: this is a 4.5" lift if it makes any diference

as for the sensors, im using a hypertech programmer, would that make any diference to the dealership because i dont think i can return it to stock settings and drive it, im running 5.13 gears with 37s on an auto tranny

U can use a drop pitman with a drop tb bracket . BUT if your draglink has been flipped you would not want a longer pitman. Did your kit have a dragflip?
Drop tb bracket/aftmkt drop pitman- good geometry
Drop tb bracket/drag flipkit- good geometry

You should return your hypertech settings back to stock before bringing to the dealer. They may reflash your computer and f'up your hyper settings and it not work any more. You can drive it, speedo with be off and you may notice a loss of whatever little power you gained with it in.

EDIT: I see the RE kit has a chromo draglink that flips to the top of the knuckle, in this case you do not need or want a longer drop pitman, it will throw your geometry off from what it is now.

yep its on top of knuckle, ok guess ill just order a stock pitman unless i can find an aftrermarket that is stronger and that is not a drop pitman,

its amazing how much this has turned into all for a bent drag link

thanks mk!

thanks warlord!! any idea how i could get a measured degree on the curve, i think mine may be curved a bit more than yours in the pic so that might indicate that mine is actually bent. i apologize for harping on this but an oem pitman arm is a little pricey and i would like to put the money towards something else if i can if i dont need it

do you know if i installed the new draglink with my pitman arm and if the arm was bent from the wreck if there would be any sign that would show it?? like would my steering not fully center up or something like that

side thought, i wonder if i order a new arm and if i dont need it, could i return it??
