Default oil burning?

I was getting on a short on ramp which required me to gas the jeep. I got up to maybe 4500 rpms and I could smell a burning smell in the cabin. Im assuming its oil burning. Is this normal?

See the other posts about oil consumption. Watch the oil level closely. A number of people (including me) have Jeeps that drink oil - lots of it.

Burning oil has a very distinct smell to it. You've never smelled burning oil before? Either way, I'm going to guesstimate it was likely your catalytic converter(s) not being able to keep up with the rapidly escaping exhaust gases. Mine does the same thing sometimes when I give it wide open throttle (particularly at higher speeds) and although it's a very obvious smell in the cabin, it's not nearly as acrid and unpleasant as burning oil. So to answer your question without physically being there to experience what happened, I'll say it's probably perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about. On a side note, my Jeep is not consuming noticeable amounts of oil to date.

BTW, I should add that this phenomenon is not limited solely to our Jeeps, but is common among many other vehicles.
