Oil change indicator issue
Folks,
I need some help regarding oil change indicator in my Jeep (stock 2010 JK with the 3.8L engine). I have had the car for a bit over a year, driven it about 12,000 miles, mostly on pavement (it is a low mileage car at just below 40k). The weather here is moderate year around (20F to 85F). I have had to change the oil in my car 4 times already, each after the indicator asks me to roughly after 3000 miles since the last oil change. I use synthetic oil, reset the thing after each oil change, do not tow, do very little off-roading, and on pavement, drive like an old man. Any ideas why the oil change indicator comes up so often? Thanks in advance |
believe it's simply a dumb clock based on mileage. I ignore mine and reset when it comes up. I keep track of my own records and interval changes. I personally change every 5k miles due to how I use my jeep.

I also have a 2010 I've had since new. It has a program that decides when it wants the oil changed by how you drive. Anywhere from 3000 to 5000 miles. If around town, it usually happens around 3000. I've had mine go to 5000 miles with just freeway driving.
