Default Oil in the intake

While changing the spark plugs I noticed oil in the intake runners (if that's their name). I'm talking about holes you see after removing the plenum where the 6 little gaskets are. I see oil in the tube which enters behind the throttle body.

My question is:
1. Is this normal?
2. What is this tube? Pcv?
3. What is the tube that feeds the air intake near the filter?

I had some oil in the air filter. Took it to dealer. They said it happens when oil is over filled. Oil was a little high on dipstick.

Check the PCV. Seen it stick and suck too much vacuum in the lubrication side of the engine . Thus suck oil mist into the intake...

Oil in the intake may very well be coming in through the PCV valve.

If it was my car I would check the compression, maybe get concerned about worn rings, since that is one way you can get a lot of extra pressure in the crankcase and cause oil to come through even a properly working PCV valve.

It appears to be the pcv. After scouring the Dodge Challenger site (same pentastar)I found that it's common and they recommended a catch can. Morison makes one for the 3.6

Moroso not Morrison.
The tube at the air filter is the make up tube. Allows air to replace any displaced through pcv.

What could it be if not the PCV?

I once had oil in my air filter. This was caused by having too much oil in the Jeep. I used to change and dump 6qts in without actually checking the level. For one reason or another, there was too much oil and it ended up in the air filter.

Default Oil in the intake

Someone commented that oil in the intake has been common from the 50's. Simply not correct. In the 50's it was likely due to a bad seal of the rings to the bore. Today likely due to the use of "low tension rings" .
