Oil Interval
2015 Sport Unlimited Confused: I did my first oil change at 5000 miles at the dealership even though the manual said go 10,000 miles before first oil change. I went back this week with close to 11,000 miles for an oil change. The tech put a service reminder for a 3,000 mile interval. My question, is it a 3,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 mile interval between oil changes?
It's outlined in the owner's manual; bottom line, wait until the oil change reminder tells you it's time, but never exceed 10,000 miles, or one year.
Severe duty is 4,000 miles.

The dealership gave you the 3,000 mile tag likely because they want to sell you more oil changes. As long as they put in the correct synthetic oil, you shouldn't have any problem going until the light comes on, or 10,000.
I've been doing mine every 5,000 because old habits are hard to break. I'm now pushing out to the 10,000 mile mark on this oil change (running Royal Purple), and checking the oil very regularly. Even Royal Purple says you can go 12,000.
At 7,500 miles so far on the oil, it has the same color and texture that it had at 5,000.
Yes I know that isn't a scientific measure, but everybody and their mother says the Royal Purple can go that long, so I am trying it out.
Happy Jeeping.
