Default Oil recommendations?

I'm going to start running Mobil 1 in my 2011 and was wondering what everyone is running. Should I just use the factory recommendation (5w20 I think?) since my Jeep is still under warranty or has anyone had better results with anything else? I heard some talk of quieter running with 5w30 and my engine is a little noisy too.

BTW, I live in Louisiana, so it can get cold ever now and again, but most of the year it's hot as hell.

I ran 5W30 on accident once, but it didn't hurt my '11 Rubicon. I'm running 5W20 now and notice more engine noise. Going back to 5W30 next time. Recommend 5W30. Search for 15W40, there's an interesting thread on the topic.

Cheers!

Just did my first oil change a little over a week ago on my JKU and on my Dakota...I am running 5w-30 Royal Purple and a K&N oil filter. Would have used a Royal Purple filter, but i forgot they made them...Have used it in my V8 Dakota since I've owned it. With moving so much in the past 3 years i didn't change the oil in the Dakota for about 2 years...it was black as hell, but still had no problems with the engine. I normally change it every 12000mi or 12mo...change the filter at 6000mi and add a quart.

When I first bought my Jeep I ran the recommended 5w-20 for the first oil change or two. I noticed a lot of engine noise while crawling around the NV desert on summer days. I went to Penzoil Platinum 5w-30. My engine is much happier. 42,000 miles and no problems, oil burning, etc.

I had a look at a export service manual. The recommended oil weight for this engine outside the US is 5w-30.

I used 5w20 for my first 2 oil changes, but I will probably switch to 5w30 the next time. I have not had any problems, I just think 5w20 is to light for hot summer use. I used Amsoil oil and an Amsoil filter.

I just changed my oil from 5W20 to 5W30 this past weekend. Definitely noticed a quieter engine and a bit of a smoother ride. I've been fortunate to not have any oil consumption problems thus far.

2010 JKU running RP 5W30 synthetic and RP filter.
