Look at this post, i know there were issues with the earlier jk's having a bad casting of the timing chain cover, the metal was porous and will allow oil seepage over time. Maybe p.m. the op of said post and see if he has any insight? He said he might do a write up so maybe he can let you know if its worth doing or waiting until its really bad. But as long as your faithful about checking your oil level and don't mind it making your engine bay dirty over time. I would say you can live with it until you get the time, money, and motivation!

Looked in my engine bay and say this today.. Is this a serious problem or a minor fix? I have a 2007 jku with 59,000 and i chexk the oil dipstick weekly and the level is still fine and the jeep runs normal. Any info helps!

I have done this on several spots of residue. It doesn't seem to come back fast enough to qualify as a leak, or even seepage.

I have had the same ''seepage'' on mine for 4 years. It's really a ''staining'' vs a ''seepage''. It never got past a stain, and I've never had to wipe any excess off.

Have you cleaned it up and observed how long it takes to come back, yet?
