Default Paint Ruined?

So I went wheelin Saturday and slung alot of mud
onto the hood. I didn't have a chance to clean it as we
were out for about 6 hours. Well when I finally
got around to cleaning it I noticed the hood had some
staining from where the mud was sitting. I tried waxing it to
remove it but no luck. Has anyone had this happen
to them? Seems as if it got into the clearcoat.

Try Meguires Cleaner Wax.

Have you ever waxed it before? If not, it wasnt protected. I like my Jeep to look good. I keep a coat of wax on it all the time and it comes clean real easy after wheelin.

It's finally warm enough here in MN to wax my Jeep. I can't wait!

If you have not waxed an auto before you need to get all the right stuff before starting. Then start with a small area and work all the way around.

Tip: Take the spare off before you start, start on the area around the spare if you make a mess it wont be so visible :-)

I use this http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...glQJ1KF2Q2HJbl

I was told by a friend that owns a bodyshop to use this and not wax because wax will break down the clearcoat overtime. At least here in florida with the hot sun.

That may be the best tip I've ever heard as far as waxing a Jeep.

Claybar should do the trick.

Straight from the 3M store:

"Hand Glaze offers no protection, regardless of how stunning it is! Seal in this stunning appearance with 3M’s Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax. "

Looks like your friend is mistaken

I have not waxed my jeep yet, and mine still cleans up pretty dog gone good! I do have plans to have mine waxed/buffed soon to take out some of the scratches. I dont do the full blown buffing waxing myself, I just do the quick spray on wipe off stuff.

I have never had problems with mud staining my paint. Although my fenders still have mud spots on them from BMRA, and that was like 20 washes ago!

I know that some mud is slightly acidic due to the mineral make up, and other factors. I know that I have seen before where some of these muds have ruined paint jobs because they etch the paint causing what looks like stains.
