Default Passenger Side Airbag issues?

Hoping you guys could help me out.

Yesterday I started to have an intermittent air bag light and chime while I was driving. After doing some reading on here, it sounded like it may have been the clock spring issue.

I decided to take it to the local Jeep dealer and they found something to the contrary. According to their diagnostics, it pulled a passenger side air bag code. He cleared the code and then pulled pulled the glove box out and grabbed hold of the harness just under the air bag towards the center console and the light came back on. He thinks it may be a bad connector or possibly a short to ground somewhere.

I had him stop there as I am pretty good with wiring issues and didn't want to pay for anything else this morning.

So, my question is; has anybody else run into this issue? I'm looking for suggestions on where to look for a bad connector or where there could be a wire that is chaffed. Obviously, I will be checking for contact corrosion on the air bag connectors but I don't think that will be an issue. Any help here is welcome.

Hey...I have been having the same problem for over a year. Before the warranty expired my dealer "recalibrated" the seat sensor and it was fine for a while...about 3 weeks ago it started happening again. I am interested to see what you find and any pictures you can post might help me out greatly.

thanks in advance!!

I have the same problem, only when the passenger seat is empty.
If I have an adult it works fine, and if my little boy or even just his booster is in the front the airbag-off light comes on and works fine... no dings or dash lights.

When the seat is empty, I have to drive a while before it dings. Maybe it's when I go over some bumps it triggers it, but I haven't been able to determine it for sure.

When I disconnect the wire harness under the passenger seat I get the same ding and warning light right away, so I figured it must be an electrical gremlin in the wiring.

I haven't bothered to chase it down since it seems to work properly anytime somebody is in the passenger seat, so it doesn't seem to be a safety issue yet for me.

I had the same problem, but found a different fix. First my dealer replaced the clock spring (under warranty). Why? He thought that might be the problem because so many other clock spirings are defective. The clock spring was not the problem- back to the dealer.
Turns out that my problem was with the harness where it attaches to the passenger seat (must be a side air bag issue). The clip holding the harness to the seat was missing (never installed), causing the harness to hang low and loose. Someone in the back seat must have kicked the harness and dammaged it. Guess who found that- the dealer? NO, it was me while he was trying to tell me I would need another clock spring! The first guy wanted to solder the harness, but they later agreed to replace it completely.
Problem solved!

Good to know. I'll start there. Too bad I'll be up to my knees in snow this weekend. Guess it will have to wait.

The problem has seemed to go away for the time being. I haven't had anyone in the passenger seat for a while. When my wife rode in the seat a few time over the weekend, the problem stopped. That makes me thing that it might be the pressure sensor in the seat.

I just got this warning yesterday! Midway through my commute, my airbag warning light lit on the intrument panel and the Passenger Side Airbag Off indicator light also came on. It has happened each time I drive the JK now, after about 10-15 minutes both lights come on.

I will check the connectors tonight when I get home.

Default It's Back!

Well, the problem has returned! However, I seem to have found the issue. When the indicator on the dash comes on, I also notice the passenger side air bag indicator down by the hazard lights switch came on as well. While I was going down the road when this happened, I pushed down on the passenger seat cushion, the passenger indicator went out and a few seconds later the dash light went out.

So...it looks like the pressure switch in the passenger seat itself is bad. Anyone know if this is replaceable? If so, any idea on the part number?
