I need to vent about this. I was looking on Jeep's website and noticed that the Patriot has double the towing capacity of my JK!

JK Unlimited with manual tranny and 3.21 gears can only tow 1000 lbs
Jeep Patriot w/ tow package can tow 2000 lbs

I still don't understand why the jk unlimited with 3.21 has less than a third of the tow capacity of the 3.73 geared but now knowing that a patriot can tow double is just ridiculous.

Not to hijack you thread (but I am). A friend told me yesterday she was thinking of trading her Commander for either a Hummer H3 or Dodge Nitro (she also has a JK and Lotus Exige). Must be the full moon or I need to be more selective about my friends.

off topic - but jeep gave me a patriot as a loaner vehicle... and WOW - that car is ugly as hell and drives horribly!! made me miss my JK real bad.

I wonder if it is due to the removable tops and liability. Places like Uhaul, would not, assume it is still this way, rent a trailer to an open top or soft top Jeep. Might be the same reason that the tow rating is less. Just a thought.

You might have something there with the top thing. There is no way a Patriot has higher towing capacity.

Its the 3.21 gears and the short wheelbase.

Patriots aren't bad vehicles. Especially, if you get a manual. I hate CVTs.

last summer i towed a 4000lbs trailer with my JK with 3.21 gears without problems , i still be able to use the 6th gear on the highway and keep relatively good MPG.....

it's like 4x the towing maximum capacity....

I thought the capacity was over 1000lbs? Man, a person could fart in a can and place it on a trailer and you would be close to that limit.

If you really want some good 'venting' material, just look at the tow limit for European JK's...

1000 lbs is only for the two door without tow package. Mine has a 3500 lb tow capacity because its a 4 door with tow.
