Performance Anxiety! Pleasre Help!
So I think my Jeep has this issue. The problem is when I really just wanna drive it like crazy he doesnt seem to react well. For example if you get in some deep mud and you feel like your getting stuck the first instinct should be to gun it to clear the treads and keep your tires spinning. My jeep however reacts to this type of thing by really like having a huge pause then sorta half ass kicking into gear and going and I have gotten stuck as a result of this. This also happens at like a red light if I am not paying attention and it turns green and I gun it so I don't feel like an idiot for sitting there. Its not a smooth acceleration, the jeep pauses then catches up. And even when it does catch up it is still really slow at accelerating. I have not really modified any performance parts (air filter, exhaust, etc) or anything from stock. I do have 35x12.50s and a 3 inch lift, but I did regear to 5.13s so I figured that would make up for that performance issue, I havent however ever had the computer recalibrated or whatever (so the speedo is off and what not). The pausing seems strange to me, and I cant really remember if it has always done this (I have 70k+ miles on it and have had it for 4 years). Is this normal for this engine and jeep ('07) or is something perhaps bad? Also if this is normal for stock components, what would be the best way to fix it? My biggest worry is that all these years of driving for gas conservation around town has just kind of made my jeep into a big wimp....
P.S. My jeep is automatic

I may know what you are feeling...if you have an older jeep, it could be your fuel filter needs replaced. A dirty fuel filter, caused by cheap fuel or fuel from the bottom the the has station tanks can cause this. A $20 part did absolute miracles on my wife's blazer a few years ago..just a thought
So what I am getting here mainly is that a pause when you stomp on the gas is not normal then? Also it could be a few different things? I will be checking out the fuel pump today as that seems like the easiest fix. Also the Trans fluid seems like its at a good level, but it is sorta grey and could prob use replacing. Is the trans fluid level really going to be contributing to this?
A booster is a bit too expensive for me, but I am thinking about the seafoam, as it may help alot. But I dont know when I am gonna do it as I'll get a ton of flack living in a college town with all these lame eco hippies....

Well I seafoamed the engine.....It feels like there is a difference but I am not 100% sure yet. Gonna let it cool and see how it feels after. It didnt smoke for that long,(maybe 1-2 mins) but there was a pretty good amount of smoke. Some however was coming out of the exhaust area near the engine...is that normal? Or do I have cracks in my exhaust or something?
From the way you describe it, it sounds like it is hesitating before downshifting when you stomp on the pedal? You mentioned "years of driving for gas conservation around town"...I know that our computer controlled transmissions have a "learning" feature that tracks your driving habits and will shift according to the way you normally drive (i.e., if you drive it like an old lady it will learn to shift like an old lady). If you drive it like you stole it for a few hundred miles - stomp the pedal at every green light - it will relearn your new driving habits and start to shift more aggressively.

Well I know if you just stomp on it to clear your grads in the mud and your esp is on it will just feel like it died ... Mine does that freakin annoying all I wanna do is toss some mud so I turn it off... Maybe try throwing a round of the Lucas gasoline additive clean up the injectors and what not I ran it through mine at about 100000 miles and it seemed to make a little difference maybe it was mental but I don't care felt like it did something haha
do the steering wheel dance and completely disable the damn ESP ( you will have to deal with an idiot light )...you could buy a booster to improve the "drive by wire" signal response, run a bottle of Seafoam through your brake booster vacuum tube.....if all of the above show no improvement....sell the Auto and by a six-speed
