Went to change the rear gear oil on my 07 U-Sahara D44. Metal everywhere (including chunks). I inspected the pinion and ring gear and no damage. The damaged gears are inside the carrier. My jeep came factory with a Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle. I always assumed that meant I had a locker rear end. It that true? Any way, I want to keep everything stock. Its my Dailey driver and fishing truck for the family. My question is, can I grab a carrier from a stock 07 and swap ring gears with my factory 4.11 without having to re-shim the worm gear? Thanks for the assistance in advance.

From the picture I can't tell how bad it is, but I wouldn't try swapping them. Try looking at getting a differential rebuild kit. They don't cost that much, and if your problem is that, it should fix it. On an off note, why would you want to swap the newer set for an older, and prolly more worn out one?

I love to rebuild stuff...Did the rear gears on my last TJ. These look different. Any leads on a company that offers the rebuild kit? Also from looking around online, there are 2 different sizes in 07 for a D44 rear with 4.11 gears. Any way of figuring out which before pulling it apart? Thanks Bro...

Pictures kinda out of focus but it looks like your spider gears are chewed up. Should be a pretty easy fix if thats the only problem.

I'm guessing the two sizes are for the jk, then the jk rubicon, Or it could be the different ones for the front and rear axles. In the rear their dana 44 with a 30 spline count, front is Dana 30 with a 27 spline. Guessing tho, never found any difference like you're talking about for only the rear. There are plenty of companies that offer the kits, different variations of them too, like master overhaul kits, or ones that are just the OE stock replacements. There are differential, gear, and carrier rebuild kits, take your pic.

So there is one called for a open and one for a locker. How do I know if I have a locker?

Stock 2007 jks don't come with lockers as far as I know unless they were installed by a previous owner. Easiest way to tell is jack up the rear end and spin one tire by hand. If the opposite tire spins in the same direction as well then it's a locked one.
