Gorilla makes some nice spline drive nuts. They use a special socket which makes them a bit more theft resistant.

Put $30 auto store chrome ones on. At least they are solid. The jack legs that put on the tires - I bought it used 4 months ago so no way of knowing when - must've been mad that day. I had to use a large socket with breaker bar to get 3 out of 4 tires off. Out of 20 nuts, 5 came off easily with the jeep wrench. Two caps popped off and the nut beneath deformed causing me to have to force a 17 mm socket on them with a hammer to get them back to some semblance of a straight edge for the socket to grab. Imagine if you were on the interstate and that happened or out in the back 40 wheeling. The jeep wrench is now toast - it literally twisted and bent with paint flaking off and deforming. Amazing. I know jeep didn't cause it but these factory lugs are crap. I replaced all to avoid issue with the caps popping off. I recommend everyone checking if they let a tire store use the gun on theirs. As Capt'n Ron says, "If it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen out there."

With all you guys changing out your lug nuts, it can't hurt to mention, make sure your getting a nut with the "proper degree of taper" for the seat on the wheel your using,,, someone else might pipe in what the proper taper is on stock wheels, cause I'm not sure off hand....

When I switch out my 35's on steelies, for my stock wheels, I use a different lug nut, ( recommended by my tire guy)

I think all the taper are 60 degree. There are other types but if they are taper type I think they are a set taper...

When you take the nut's off it helps to keep them in a sack. I think Ebay has great deals on nut sacks.

And keep your nut sack in your hand. It's also a good idea to have your wife or girlfriend hold your nut sack. Whatever you do...Don't put your nut sack on the ground. That's how you get a dirty nut sack.

I have the black ones. An impact has been used on them for removal. They've always been properly torqued. Of course the finish is coming off most of them in the splines and they're rusting from the salty roads. I'll have to pick up something stainless in the spring, I guess. I really like the spline drive, though.
