Problem with passenger door opening after being locked

Hey All -

Still loving the jk but have one annoying problem that will probably bring me back to the dealership unless someone on the forums has an idea.

Did a couple of searches and couldn't find anything so if this has already been posted and I missed it I apologize.

My front passenger door (vehicle specs in sig line) will not open from the outside after the locks have been released.

What I mean is that if I lock my vehicle, when I come back to it I can not release the locks (either with the key remote or door switch) and then open the front passenger door from the outside. All three other doors (four counting the tail gate) work fine. And once it has been opened from the inside (with the latch) you can open and shut it fine from the outside as long as the door remains unlocked.

Sometimes you can get the door to open from the outside after it has been unlocked if you push in on the door panel very hard and while holding it in press the door release on the handle but that is not a great long term solution as eventually I will probably press too hard (and it doesn't work all the time either).

I am guessing this might be an alignment issue but thought I would check here first before bringing in to the dealer.

Thanks!

There's this TSB for a similar issue, although it specifically addresses the rear doors.... sounds like your issue is just a problem with the lock or something.

Probably something your dealer will need to fix.

My front driver's door does the same thing... but i've figured out the trick. It only does it when its cold outside, and i try to open it from the outside after it was just locked. I stood in walmart two weeks after buying pressing the button over and over again saying "you gotta be kidding me, what the heck is up with the handle?" Until i realized that if you press the button all the way in, and pull your thumb of really fast the the button can pop out real quick, then it opens right up like normal. My passenger side works fine... so as long as all my passengers can get in, and i know the trick for my door, all is fine. I took the doors apart the other day to install a set of aftermarket power locks (wow that was a lot of work, let me tell you... 10 hours of dismantling, pulling apart, figuring out how to make the actuators work with cables when they're designed for rods, design the mechanics of it, wire it, put in connectors so i can still take the doors off, trouble shoot why they didn't work, re-wire the front passenger door, yikes) anyway, while i had the Jeep gutted and the handles/latchs apart/out, i took a look at it, and can't figure out why it does that, must be something internal on the latch. So like i said earlier, since everyone else can get in fine, and i know the trick, i'm gonna leave well enough alone. Anyway, i hope that button trick works for you. Good luck. Oh, and about the TSB for the rear doors,,, the front outer handles connect to the Latch through really short rods, where the back are set up quite different, the rear outer handle simply pushes a button through the door that pushes a button on the latch... i.e. they're not really connected anywhere (kinda confusing i know) but the point is, i'm not sure if that TSB would fix it or not, but either way, its a brand new car and i'm sure that your dealer can fix it for you somehow. good luck

Yellowjeeper85 -

Your trick did work on the door but it sometimes takes two or three tries. If it was the driver's door I could probably live with it as you do but as its the passenger's front door it could be awkward (not to mention embarrassing to explain why my doors don't work on a brand new vehicle) to have to constantly explain the trick.

I guess I will wait a few days to see if it works itself out (doubtful) but then will have to make a trip to the dealership.

Thanks for your help.
