Problem with steering column electrical
Has anyone experienced this problem? I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I'm having an issue with the windshield wipers turning on when ever they feel like it. Sometimes while I'm driving straight, lights off, no signal light etc activated, the wipers just turn on. Another problem I'm experiencing is the dash lights flickering on the dim setting. While adjusting the dim brightness I can hear sparking in the control stick. Also, the display changes when I honk the horn. Am I the only one with this issue? Thanks.
This started happening at 7500Kms, it has 8300kms now. I haven't had any work done to the Jeep recently. It will be going into the shop for them to have a look at it on Tuesday.
x2 on the clockspring. All the controls on the steering column make their electrical connections via the clockspring, and weird things happen when it goes bad. My horn started going off at random times - twice at 3 in the morning while I was sleeping (really annoys the neighbors), and once while sitting in traffic (almost gave the guy in front of me a heart attack
).
There was a known problem with the clockspring in early models, and Chrysler will replace them even out of warranty (because of the airbag connections). Don't know about 2012.

I took the Jeep into the shop, they didn't bother looking at the electrical. They said this problem happens to a lot of Dodge trucks. "When your vehicle sits for awhile in the cold the battery has voltage and when that happens the electrical components do weird things" so they say... Except I always keep my Jeep in the garage and drive it daily. I also hear sparking in the dimming control..
