That makes sense - had to do that when I regeared my XJ. How long of a cool off? If I'm going 120 miles would it be needed the whole way home or just a hand full of times?

A couple of times would put you way ahead of what most people would do.

I've heard that's the correct way too... but it's hard to sort through opinion and fact when talking about vehicles. There are too many variables. Vehicles are all different.

For me, it's difficult to push a new vehicle too hard... I mean I just shelled out $28K for it, lol.

I drove mine between 70-90 mph for 160 miles as Ive done every new vehicle Ive ever owned and have never had a problem. If its going to break thats the best time when the warranty fresh.

Can someone please post what they've read maybe out of their owners manual?

Thanks!

Download the owners manual from the Jeep site. It has break-in instructions.

Mainly it is don't go fast for the first 25 or so, vary your speeds. They emphasized to "STEP on the GAS" frequently. They want you to break it in with acceleration in mind.

So I drove slower for the first 15 then jumped it up to 80 and varied from there. 85, 90, 75 but around 80. It still is one heck of a claim jumper.

Oh, I also changed the oil at 1500 miles, it freaked them out, but I wanted any breakin shavings out of my oil pan. It has been 3k changes ever since.

Hmmm....

Well I'll be driving it home varying the speeds and throttle pressures. I'll go easy around Denver for the first 30-50 and jump on the highway after letting her cool off. Stop off in Parker to let her cool again. And Castle Rock...maybe one more before just letting her stretch her legs and vary the speeds/gears/throttle.

This seems to be an overall average of what everyone is saying.

Seriously? I had mine in 4WD on a forestry road during the test drive and had it out exploring the backroads the day after I bought it.
