So I would like to bypass the heater core on my 08 JK. My question is, does it matter if I just run a small tube from the water pump to the t-stat, or is it really needed to put the bypass up at the firewall? I realize this is a dumb question but knowing my luck I will assume and regret.

Just place a hose across where the two heater hoses connect to. Do not block them off but let the water circulate still.
