Question about an X model
Disclaimer: I am a Jeep guy, but new to the JK world.
That being said, lockers such as the detroit, ARB, etc. are carrier specific. That is to say that you maybe have one locker / carrier for a 3.73 and higher, and another for a 4.10 and lower, etc; therefore, depending on what gears you swap to you may have to replace carriers and thereby lockers. In some cases like our Early Bronco D44 front they make a 4.10 thick ring gear which will work with a higher gear carrier.
I really know nothing about the JK axles, maybe I'll do some reading tonight. But I guess my point is you should not assume that you can keep your locker if you change gears.
BTW, I just picked up my '07 X with 4.10 gears. There are a million of them at the dealers around St. Louis. Why don't you just buy one of those? They even come with a Lifetime Powertrain warrantee right now. It doesn't get any better than that. I may just put 5.38 gears in mine.......20 years from now when I'm done using it as a daily driver.
