Default Quick carpet question

Just pulled my carpet for the first time to wash it and hose down the interior. What are the white pads on the underside of the drivers and passengers carpet for? And do I need them? They look kind of like diapers to me.

I remember seeing it in another thread but can't find it. I'm guessing they're for sound insulation or something. The rest of my carpet is dry but the pads seem to hold a lot more water.

They help block out noise and heat.. I took out the carpet and never put it back in. One of the best things I've done so far!

Thanks for the reply. Thought about leaving mine out permanently. However if I invest in some quadratec floor liners and vacuum it once in a while it probably wouldn't need pulling (until I get caught naked in a thunderstorm).

EDIT: The Jeeps naked not me lol.

The other option is the mopar rubber interior that replaces the carpet.

My carpet always seemed to be damp cause of the notorious soft top leak. There was always water between carpet and floor. It would always have that moldy smell to it as well. After getting a shit ton of sand in my jeep at the beach, it had to go. For the life of me, I could not get all the sand out of the carpet... I'll bedline it at some point..

I bought the rubber replacement and love it... I hated cleaning carpet... but the floorboard does get a little warm in the summer time especially on long trips... just put cheap carpet mats in.

X2... I removed just the front carpet and like it a lot better. I'm still using my weathertech liners with another mat beneath it, so the tub doesn't get jacked up.

I think that's exactly what they're designed for; to soak up all the water that leaks in through the top and door seals; kinda like big, floor-mat tampons.
