Clean the glass really well.
The better you clean it, the better it works, and it'll last longer too.
Now, here's the trick.
Apply the Rain X, then wash the vehicle.
That's right, wash it right off with your wash mitt.
You won't even be able to tell you're washing it off...it doesn't clog the mitt or anything...just wash the glass like you would normally do when you wash the vehicle(this only works with a mitt of some sorts...not just power washing).
Doing it this way leaves no streaking, and it doesn't affect how long it lasts on the glass.
It adds maybe 5 minutes to my wash routine(I do it every time), so this way I always have freshly Rain X'ed windows.

Try it!
Thanks for the tip! I'll do it next time!

I treat all of my windows not just the windshield. Also put it on my the mirrors and the headlights. Ever go through mud and then not be able to see well at night getting home? Not AS much of a problem after although mud cleans differently than water. I use the regular treatment and buff it in like wax plus the washer additive for a little boost.

As far as getting rid of streaks, make sure the rainx has time to fully haze over and then while buffing it back off put a small amount of water on the cloth. Then a quick second buff with a dry cloth. If it still somehow has streaks run the wipers (with the additive so you won't be rubbing any off) and you should be crystal clear. I bet doing it in the wash like mentioned above works great too. Mine's usually covered in too much dirt/mud for me to apply it prior to washing.

The orange washer fluid with rain x is also great to use. I do both.

Be careful with rainex on the plastic lenses of the lighting. I believe that the directions say "glass only". Definetly apply to every piece of glass on the vehicle. Streaks can be avoided by applying twice with a pattern 90* from the first application. Rubbing down is a PITA. But worth the effort.

Rainx washer fluid is the way to go. In Ohio it is a seasonal item only available in the winter, so I buy a case each season. No streaking and water beads off. It's also good to -20 or something ridiculous.

I'll have to give this a go also. Trying to get all the haze off the glass is a PITA. Thanks for the tip!

Give the rainX wiperblades a try too. Have them on my wifes Honda Fit. Had them for about three years now and still work great, and dont know how it does it, but after being on there for a while, the rain rolls off just like rainx has been applied, even though we have never put rainx on the windshield. When I need new wiper blades for the Jeep, and for my Ranger i am going with rainx. A little pricey but dang they last.

Good to know. I have been wondering how well they worked, considering the cost. About time to replace mine, may give them a try. Thanks for sharing.
