Default Ranfom windshield crack

So I have a 2012 sport with about 2100 miles. Driving down the highway after a moderate trail ride, when i hear a pop sound. Sounded like a dent in a plastic water bottle popping out, that's what i thought it was. I look at my rear view mirror, and I see a 4"crack in my windshield (staring at very top about 2 inches left of the jeep grill window logo). No chip, no cars around, no rock, just a crack. Can't feel it in either surface inside or out....wtf??? Taking it to the dealer tomorrow after work

Welcome to the world of upright jeep winshields! I'm on my fourth one. If a pebble so much as dings the edge of it, its gonna crack. And it may be abit after a rock chips it that it does it.

Good luck with the dealer. Most likely the service manager will come out and do the pen or fingernail test at the crack origin and then give you a quote on replacement. Maybe they will be cool and write it up as a stress crack.
Again, good luck and keep us posted.

I have a new 2012 JKU as well and just hit 2400 miles. About 5 days ago I heard a loud crack but didn't see anything on the windshield. I better go take a better look.

Had my JK for 6 weeks. Golf Ball size rock blasted the passenger side lower edge thank goodness. All the cracks ran off the edge. Two small rocks hit the drivers side and made two nice star cracks. Glad I have a window policy on my insurance.

That's the thing tho. Nothing hit it, there's no chip mark, no spidering, just a straight crack from the very top of windshield.. Could it be from flexing? Not like I was doing anything extreme...
