Daily I am driving the freeway with hills and it sucks when I get to a hill and I can only hit 60 when going up which is even hard to do. I can hit 60 in second gear and it's a pain. I have a jk sport (auto) with 2.5 lift with 35s and I'm lost with what to do. Anyone who regeared is it worth doing? It's a daily driver and I do not off road it much I do some driving in the snow so I do use the 4wd. What's the best idea? Thanks

2011, and I regeared last year. 2" lift and running
315/70-17 and The only difference is that i have the 6-speed.
6th gear was useless until I regeared.
Went with 4:56 and went ahead and put in
Trutracs while there. Bottom line, worth every penny to regear.

in my 2011 with 35's I ran 4.88's which is a tad better than stock (4.10's and 32's) I think if your looking for stock feel go 4.88's or if you want more performance the go 5.13's. If your heavy with bumpers, winch and stuff go to 5.13's.

It is night and day. If you plan on having that for a good while, it will be money well spent......something you will be glad you did every single time you put the key in the ignition. Spending the money does stink.....no arguing about that.

Just remember that regearing does not mean instant v-8 power. It raises the rpm's for a given speed, which raises the HP/Torque, which lets you hold freeway speeds better. But, because of the engine and transmission you have, you will still be downshifting on hills! Though not as soon, and not as much. Just a fact of life for these 3.8 auto's.

Seeing the numbers may help put things in perspective when reading all of the replies and suggestions. These are from the gear charts in the faq's stuck to the top of the Modified area.

(3.8 auto, assuming a 34" actual measured tire height.)

3.21 = 1533 rpm @ 70 mph
3.73 = 1781
4.88 = 2330
5.13 = 2450
5.38 = 2569

And right now, if you turn OD/Off to prevent it using 4th gear.

3.21 OD/Off = 2222 @ 70 mph
3.73 OD/Off = 2581

Due to the high resale value our jeeps have, I wonder if it would be worth it to trade it in on one with a pentastar engine and use the money you would have spent on gears towards your downpayment. 3.8 to 3.6 = instant power boost, and better gas mileage.

would 5.13 be the right choice for a DD with a 2.5 lift 315s and bumpers with a winch? Or am I trying to do too much or too little?

Lots of personal preference and opinion involved, but 'I' think 5.13's are a great choice for a 3.8 auto on 35's. Others will voice their opinions about 4.88 or 4.56 being better choices. Just depends.

Your best bet while researching it might be to try and find a couple locals with 35's and the various ratios, and see if you can get a ride to compare.

Or, as I posted above, simply turning the od/off will bump up rpm's and get you within a few hundred rpm of what a regear would do. The charts are stuck right to the top of the Modified area. Use actual measured tire height, not 35", not mfg spec. To get od/off, just divide the rpm from the chart by .69
