anyone have thoughts on matching pad hardness to rotor specs?

I'm just thinking that what good are "lifetime" pads that eat through rotors.

My guess is that if keeping stock rotors, you may want a pad with a similar rating as the OEM pads.

Anyone know the edge code for the OEM pads?

I am pretty ignorant so I would like to know the "why" about the choice of brake pads, as opposed to what the marketing hype is.
