Rear glass from hard top, spontaneous combustion
Anyone else have their rear glass spontaneously combust? My girlfriend was loading the car and was up by the drivers door, my roommate was standing next to her. They heard a crack and the sound of the rear glass shattering into a million weaponized shards. Nothing was laid against the window, there was plenty of room in the back. Brand new 2012 JKU.
Unfortunately I was away when it happened, and we are moving out of town tomorrow so we didn't have time to take it to the dealer. She paid $700 out of pocket for safelite auto to do a half ass job and replace the glass without reconnecting the defroster or even put the window lifts back on correctly before I even found out (I was taking an exam at the time).
Any ways, has this happened to anyone else? Is this a known issue? Once I get to Texas, I'm going to the dealership, but since it's replaced already I doubt they will reimburse us. FML.

How hot can it get in Columbus??
In the Mojave (where it does get above 115 for days and days) I haven't seen or heard of this happening. Usually if glass breaks it is because the sudden change in temperature that causes uneven contraction or expansion of the liquid (yes glass is a liquid) and places tensile and compressive stresses on it. Depending on whether it is cooling down (compressive in middle and tensile outer) or heating up (tensile middle and compressive outer) these stresses will cause the glass to break (most likely rapid shattering if temp change quick enough)
