Replaced Evap can and...
This thread and others helped me diagnose my gascap notice and check engine code.
I tore off the Evap Cannister and damaged the ESIM Module months/years ago. I epoxy'd them back together and hoped for the best. When that didn't fix it, I replaced them both months later.
I did indeed have my ESIM Module (White thing) rotated the wrong way, and also the gasket was leaking (I think) and I replaced that too for $2. The combination of those got rid of one of the engine codes, but not both. Got rid of P0456 but not P0457.
Apparently the dum#@$ mechanic (me!) didn't realize that there was a yellow cap inserted into the vent side of the ESIM Module when I installed it. When I installed it months ago, it didn't fix the gascap warning and engine code (I wonder why!), and I just didn't worry about it untill now when my Emissions inspection is due.
The yellow cap had come loose and was inside the vent tube after some time. When I was digging into getting it fixed for my emissions inspection, I couldn't get the final code to clear, so I broke down and took it to the dealer for a smoke test. When the mechanic pulled the vent hose to hook up the smoke machine, he saw the piece up in the vent tube. Of course he saw it because he was standing under the Jeep. I never saw it because I was laying on my back with little room to move.
The mechanic had never seen the cap before, and when I had the parts guy pull a new ESIM Module, it wasn't on the new one that he showed me.
Thanks to everyone who offers up their experience and insight into Jeep issues. It has saved me thousands of dollars in labor charges by being able to do the work myself. Although this time being a web mechanic backfired on me!
I hate to post that I was a dumb*#* but hopefully it helps someone else.
