Default Right Side Thud - What is it?

Most times when I go over a subtle bump or dip at a very slow speed (1-3 mph), I hear a hollow single thud coming from roughly the middle of my 4-doors on the driver's side, sounds to be mid-way up. It doesn't happen at faster speeds, only slower. Not sure what to make of it really, but its only on the driver's side, and not the passenger side. I just had some new Trail Grapplers put on, but I don't think its those, as its intermittent and only on one side.

Any thoughts?

Try wrapping some electrical tape around the door latch! The part on the jeep. Had the same sound and it fixed it! Let me know if it helped you

Same thing use to happen with my Jeep. As stated above just wrap some electrical tape around the door hinge. The dealer will also put some foam in the pillar to resolve it

You ran over a puppy?

Either that or the infamous door pillar thud. As mentioned above, electrical tape works. I just shoot a bit of white lithium grease on the latch and that works great too. Adjusting the latch will help, but I find that it won't eliminate the problem. The grease about every 6 months works just fine for me! (except for when the wife gets grease on her when she gets in )

I've heard of the tape thing working but it didnt for me. I used some spray grease in the latches and the clunking went away. The mechanism in the door, not the latch on the pillar.

You guys are great. I'll give it a try. By the way. What exactly is the tape or, especially the grease, doing to eliminate the thud?

Good stuff guys. I placed a small piece of electrical tape around the catch on the frame, and viola, no more thud. Thanks again!
