Question Rock chip Key on a 2012

I have a 2012 Sport without anything, but the chip in the key. This is an "S" key. I looked at the Quadratec web sight, and they says it is not for my Wrangler. The Tan Rock key #692960 is for vehicles with an "S" key. My question is will this key work on my Jeep if I program it? I would most likely buy another regular key so I can place my originals in my fire proof filing cabinet. All the locksmiths, and the dealer want at least $100 a key.

From what I can tell, these are not comparable with 2012 models. A little more time is needed for manufacturers make them.

Default Keys programmed and work perfectly

These keys work.

My boyfriend did two keys and they both work fine.

He says we can program six more.

Here is a good place for transponder chip keys for a very low price, but you must have two working transponder keys to self-program a new key. These keys are also made in the USA.

If you only have one working transponder key, you will need to go to a dealer or hardware store, or locksmith, for the second key. Then you can order these keys and self-program them according to the directions in your owner's manual.

Once you have two working keys, either original factory keys or copied keys, or cloned keys, you can self-program up to 8 additional keys.

Default 2011 Key Blank Required?

I just bought a 2011 JK with only one key and want to add another key as insurance in case the original is lost or something worse. The guys below have both the regular & chipped blanks. Which one do I need?

Jeep Keys and Jeep Accessories from from Morris 4x4 Center

Thanks

You MUST use a transponder chip key, either the "Sentry Key" style with remote, or regular key, but it MUST be a transponder chip key, or your Jeep will start, then shut off within a few seconds.

If you only have one key now, you will have to go to a dealer or locksmith or hardware store that can cut and program another chip key for you.

Once you have two working chip keys of any type, you can then purchase additional chip key blanks and self program them yourself, per instructions in the owner's manual. Very easy to do yourself, but you must have two working keys.

Good place for inexpensive chip keys here, and they also fit the new 2013 Wranglers:
