Default Rust issues!

Ok, so I've done a quick search with no helpful results. While touching up my bumpers today, sanding the rust off and covering the areas with a flat black model paint, I noticed a TON of parts rusting underneath... The C gussets, I think that's what they're called, are rusting. A TON of other stuff in that area and connected to my wheels, or axles, is also rusting! I can understand A LITTLE bit of rust on the undercarriage but should I be concerned?? Should I pull this stuff off, sand it down and paint?? Will doing that injure these vital parts? Would this be covered under warranty?? This is my first Jeep, which I love, rust or not... So I'm trying to figure all this out. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I live on the coast and mine is rusted really bad also it was rusty within the first couple weeks. It all surface rust and I don't think it will affect or eat through anything but if you are worried about it spray it with a rust treatment and paint it.

i wouldnt take concern to it. as long as its surface rust, youre fine. but if you see its eating away at a major part, jeeps have some sort of rust warranty that would replace it.
Ludski, honest question, and i am in no wy calling you out as i am 18 too, but how are do you own both a raptor and your wrangler at 18?

What are you spraying on it? Are you sanding off the surface rust first??

I thought I remembered you telling this story on another post... Wasn't sure though. A guy in my neighborhood has a Raptor and I've been trying to catch him and talk about our rides... I suppose since I have a 2011 Rubi, I could see if he wanted to go get dirty! :-) and plus I could hold my own! ;-)

Any forged iron part, cast iron part or axle housing or spring underneath your vehicle has none or the minimum paint on it because these are not items with rust-thru histories. The rust-thru perforation warranty normally covers outer-panel rust-thru only. Superficial rust on suspension pieces is a non-issue and is not covered. Much worry about nothing. Get your undercarriage clean and DRY, buy a few spray cans of black rustoleum and go to it. Cheap and effective.

I appreciate the info. Going out tomorrow to get some since I'm gonna finish up touching up the bumpers. I just got back from a week long beach trip and the salt produced some bad surface rust that I wanna keep up with!

So I just remembered that the bottom of my diffs are starting to rust as well... Any chance I'd mess the seals up if I sanded off the rust and spray 'em?

Nope! I usually scuff them up with a wire brush to knock off the dirt and surface rust, then spray them... You could buy POR (paint over rust) and seal it but it's expensive. You'll be fine with spraypaint, I had a wire brush attachment for my drill for the tough spots.. Good luck and watch out for over spray on your rig! Trust me, it gets everywhere!!!!
